woof-woof, meoowwww! Coming this Friday, we head out to the Eldorado Farmers Market and explore how to use pure, therapeutic grade essential oils with our canine and feline family members.

At our table, both you and your dog will have something delicious to sample. We'll offer two free recipes "featuring fresh, fall favorites from the Farmers Market" {how many times can you say that real fast?} including northern New Mexico pumpkins and apples.

recipe 1: gluten free "mini apple doggie scones"

These doggie scones are pure, natural, gluten free, human grade, and help promote healthy joints, digestive, and immune system. Save a few for yourself ~ a simple, quick breakfast or sugar-free snack ~ or plan a tea party with your favorite furry friends!

Makes about 5.5 dozen bite-sized scones {65 or more} ~ see photo

rice flour
capsule polyphenol complex* or curcumin {optional}
pureed apple {use fresh or packaged; no sugar or other ingredients}
plain yogurt; goat's milk is the best for dogs
carrot, shredded {optional}
coconut oil
cinnamon essential oil {pure, therapeutic and culinary grade only}
ginger essential oil {pure, therapeutic and culinary grade only}
Pre-heat oven at 325-degrees.

Measure rice flour, add the optional polyphenol or curcumin to the flour and combine with fingers or a fork ~ set aside. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine apple, yogurt, and {optional} shredded carrot.  Microwave the coconut oil in a small bowl or ramekin {less than 30 sec.} and add to the wet mixture. Slowly add the rice flour to the wet ingredients using a spatula or hands ~ mix until it forms a sticky, bread-like dough. Form into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap ~ refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Remove dough from refrigerator. If the dough is very sticky, add more flour {approximately 1/4 c at a time} until it is easy to handle. Using a 1/2 t measure or small spoon, scoop dough and drop onto cookie sheet ~ only about an inch apart {since there is no rising agent, they do not expand}.

Bake at 325-degrees for about 35 minutes or until bottom is browned and the top dry and firm.

Nutritional notes

The pholyphenol complex {ask about the one we offer and recommend} or curcumin is great nutritional supplement for supporting anti-inflammatory response and provides anti-oxidant benefits.

Yogurt is a natural probiotic food that dogs usually love. If your dog has a lactose intolerance or any digestive issues, try using goat's milk yogurt. Make sure the yogurt is plain {no sugar or other additives} and contains live, active cultures.

Essential oils ~ only use pure, therapeutic and culinary grade essential oils. Please check off the box in the form below to find out how to buy these oils from our online retail store or at 25% off with a wholesale account {it's easy to apply}.

Cinnamon essential oil promotes circulation, healthy immune system, supports oral health, helps alleviate sore muscles and joints, and offers a sweet flavor.

Ginger essential oil is best know as a safe and effective digestive aid. It can lessen motion sickness and soothe an upset stomach. Studies have shown that Ginger also has a positive effect on joint health. A warm spicy flavor used to enhance savory and sweet foods.

pureed pumpkin
sea salt
chick pea flour
liquid; coconut milk, goat milk, or chicken broth
Protective blend essential oils {wild orange, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, rosemary}
Pre-heat oven to 350-degrees. Blend eggs, pumpkin, salt, and essential oils. Add flour at about 1/4 cup at a time ~ mix in-between additions and begin adding liquid, in small amounts, to make the dough workable. It should be dry and dense.

Roll dough to about 1/2" thickness and cut in shapes {dog bones, hearts, stars, rounds, dog shapes}.

Arrange on parchment lined cookie sheet about 1" apart. Bake about 20 minutes on one side. Rotate cookie sheet, flip biscuits, bake another 20 minutes
Nutritional notes

Chick pea flour is high in digestible fiber, protein, and has a lower glycemic index than wheat flour.

Pumpkin puree {fresh made or canned} also provides healthy fiber. It helps dogs and cats with both constipation and diarrhea. Add a tablespoon or two to their food to assist with healthy digestion.

Save the pumpkin seeds ~ use as a healthy garnish on top of the biscuits or roast and have a pumpkin seed party with your dog. Pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and antioxidants ~ good for skin and fur.

Pumpkin puree and pumpkin seeds are considered useful in supporting urinary health. An excellent source of Vitamin A, beta-carotine, potassium and iron.

Protective blend essential oil can support your pet from environment and seasonal threats and helps strengthen the immune system.
