ShowHouse Santa Fe 2014: doTERRiors that make art scents

PictureJacqueline Butler, Artist & doTERRA Wellness Advocate
Yesterday, my friend and doTERRA colleague, Jackie Butler, asked me to join her for a preview of her newest creation, "Calm," on display at the upcoming ShowHouse Santa Fe 2014 designer home. Needless-to-say, I jumped at the opportunity to see her new work and for a sneak peek of the designer home. "Calm" is a rich, encaustic painting that sets the mood in interior designer Jennifer Ashton's Asian-inspired master suite. Specifically,  it is on the wall as you enter the luxurious master bathroom.

What's are doTERRiors and what is art scents? My own made-up, crazy words describing a way  to experience art and interior design with doTERRA essential oils. Jackie is making art scents by diffusing Ylang Ylang and Jasmine in the master suite with the painting during the Gala preview and touring hours.

Jackie wrote in her artist bio ...

"FURTHER ENGAGING THE SENSES . . .
Ylang Ylang and Jasmine have been used historically in India and Asia to relieve stress and mental fatigue as well as having an aphrodisiac effect. These delightful doTERRA essential oils impact mood and create a calming, sensual experience. "

If you have a chance, please stop by to tour this amazing designer home. Be sure to visit Jennifer's room where you will experience Jackie's "Calm" installation:

art + aromatherapy = "art scents" experience

Need a quick and easy chocolate fix with a zing? Try this santadotfe-original fudge recipe featuring CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) peppermint oil.

sea salt chocolate mint fudge

Makes 12 small but very rich squares

Ingredients

1/4 c organic coconut oil
1/4 c organic brown rice syrup
1/4 c organic cacao powder
generous pinch of sea salt (more to garnish)
touch of vanilla extract
2 drops peppermint oil

Instruction

Combine ingredients in a small saucepan on stovetop. Stir with a spoon or whisk over a low heat until ingredients are combined and glistening - about 2-3 minutes. Cool for a few minutes before pouring the mixture into a small container. Cover and refrigerate until set.

Optionally, leave cover off for about 40 minutes to set in the refrigerator. While it is setting but still silky. sprinkle a bit more course sea salt on the top as a garnish.

Keep refrigerated and serve immediately (they will melt).
~:~
Want to enhance the eating experience? Before taking them out of the refrigeration to serve:

~ drop a dab of peppermint oil into the palm of your guest's hand

~ briskly rub hands together

~ cup hands creating a funnel, and

~ inhale

Enjoy!
~:~
Brown rice syrup sounds healthy, but it is still sugar and offer little if any nutrients. It is primarily glucose and contains no fructose, so brown rice syrup shouldn’t have the same negative effects on liver function and metabolic health as regular sugar.

essential oils for everyday : day 1

9/4/2014

Picture
Today, I started an essential oil regimen to help with my chronic sinusitis. In addition to my medications, which aren't helping much lately, essential oils will become part of my everyday routine to stay clear, alert, and breathing.

Here is the regimen I started today featuring the dynamic trio of:
lemon, lavender and peppermint ...

  1. Waking up to a full 8-oz glass of water -- add one drop of lemon oil to the water
  2. When needed,  for a stuffy nose -- apply a drop of peppermint to the palm of your hand and, with the other hand, dip a finger in the oil and apply under the tongue -- rub hands together, cup hands (creating a funnel) and inhale the aromatics
  3. Drink a total of 6-8, 8-oz glasses of water throughout the day -- add a drop of lemon oil to every other glass of water
  4. Get ready for bed and a night of relaxation -- an essential oil shower or a bath for a luxurious, spa-like treat (see below)
  5. Lavender oil on your pillow or on a tissue near your nose can help promote more restful sleep
  6. A glass of water on your nightstand -- with, you guessed it, another drop of lemon oil

shower or bath?

Step 4 of the daily regimen winds down for an evening of restful healing. If you are not sure whether to shower or bathe, maybe the tips below will help you decide.

A shower, instead of a bath, is the best choice if you have been outdoors. It may not be visible, but pollen can stick to hair and can make you uncomfortable and restless through the night.

If you have a tub-shower combo, run the bath until the water is warm, plug up the tub to fill the bath by an inch or so, add a drop or two of peppermint, stepping inside and switching to the shower setting. The aroma from the peppermint will help clear your sinuses and your feet will get a special treat.

A bath before bed can be luxurious and healthy. Make your own bath salt -- start with a 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of epsom salt and two drops of peppermint (for extra sinus relief and to soothe tired feet) or lavender for a relaxing, spa-like experience.

next journal entry ...

Expect another blog, or journal entry, in a few weeks where I will share my progress, challenges, and rewards as the new regimen continues. I will be adding Breathe and other essential oils and blends to the mix and experimenting with techniques such as diffusing.

Wish me luck for success and wellness.
